NEWS ON CHAINSAW

the ethos

the live show

2h, twice per week. Hosted by Dexter (based in LA). Live in-studio when possible. Can also be done in NY if Dexter is there.

(to start: 1x per week during prototyping phase, move to schedule below if the rhythm feels good)

Two topics per show. This allows for a deeper dive on topics. The live element allows people to ask questions – eg if we’re talking about abortion access and someone asks ‘what is Roe v Wade?’, we can pause and answer that. This technology has existed for decades and nobody’s really used it at scale. We take the opportunity and use it.

‘Talent’/guests come from outside, mostly. There is very little video news being done now, but there are great print/web writers. We invite them to talk about their work. Most long articles will support a 25~30 minute conversation.

But we also use this as the place to debut the docs we have commissioned or made in-house. If we’ve made a documentary about motorcycle boys in Pakistan, we debut the doc live on-stream, with a talk with the director afterwards. After it debuts, then it can go to YouTube/static site the next day

reuse of assets

Everything can also be chopped up into podcasts, and social media clips. Each week of programming should give us, at minimum, 2 podcast episodes, 5 social media clips, and one short newsletter with links to all the stuff we are reading.

We also make sure to tag the guests in any social assets, so that they post to their own channels and spread the word.
